Several minor bug fixes. Please note that when you change the Full section in the editor, the Viewer will not automatically update. You will need reselect the profiles you’ve just edited. To avoid this task, always make sure everything is correct in the Editor first. In the meantime, we’ll look for a way to update the Viewer unobtrusively. Check the Release Notes before you download.

ProVAL 3.02.0077 is released and ready for download! It comes with several fixes and improvements.

We are jump-starting the ProVAL Forum again—it has been quiet for a while!  Please take advantage of this forum to:

• post questions about ProVAL,
• help other users answer their questions, and
• share thoughts on ProVAL or pavement smoothness (profiling, profilers, and specifications) in general.

There was an annoying multithreaded bug preventing the software from starting on some systems. Also, if you use a proxy, you will likely not yet be able to retrieve news on ProVAL Online.

This release contains several bug fixes and new features. We’d also like to point out an existing feature from 3.00: the ability to open multiple copies of ProVAL 3. This makes it much easier to compare practically anything you’d like.

Previously the ProVAL Online section on the Home page simply loaded this website. This was a stopgap until we had some time to implement a new feature correctly. Now it will display the most current news from the site and a list of upcoming workshops. If you’ve turned off the Online feature, we suggest you give the new one a chance.

Finally, you may have noticed adding files or opening projects did not always produce progress windows — we’ve fixed that problem. One of the side effects of this new code is that there is not currently a requirement to immediately save a new or imported project. This could change in the future and will be re-examined in the next major release (3.1?).

Make sure you read the Release Notes as there are some very important changes.

Celebrate Thanksgiving with ProVAL 3.01! As always, check the Release Notes for important information. Aside from various bug fixes, we added the ability to copy tables to the Clipboard. We ran out of time to include this feature in 3.00.  Not included in the Release Notes is an additional installation requirement (Visual C++ 2005 SP1).  If you’ve not been able to get PV3 running, this could be the cause. Time permitting, the next release will address this.

We are pleased to announce the official release of ProVAL 3.0. This beta testing period was the longest we can recall, so thank you for your patience. A flurry of issues arose near the end, so please read the Release Notes to see if you are affected by the changes. We also added a Known Issues section to the Release Notes.

The PPF file specification has been updated to 1.05.  We’ve clarified the recommended method for handling Sections in PPF, which will hopefully eliminate any confusion.

What’s next?

We have a small list of features that will be included in the next minor update.  Updates will be released as needed to fix any issues.

Update: As you may read in the Release Notes, there were issues importing Input Sets from 2.7. We recommend you start fresh by removing the Analysis Templates file in 3.0.  Instructions for doing this are on the FAQ page, down at the bottom. The FAQ also describes steps to take if the software crashes.

Thanks to all the adventurous people trying out PV3, RC 3 is now available. Check the Release Notes to see what’s changed. Barring any showstoppers, this will be the last version in the testing phase.

The most significant changes are several fixes related to Sections, particularly in SAM. Also, use with Windows x64 systems should not be a problem anymore. Check out the Release Notes for more information.

Two ProVAL workshops (Advanced and QC/QA) will be offered at Sheraton Gateway Hotel – Atlanta Airport during the RPUG 2009 meeting. The RPUG 2009 meeting agenda is posted and the registration has just started.
