Release Notes ProVAL 3.3

Known Issues

  • Projects or Input Sets from ProVAL 2.x that are saved in a different region than your system can’t be opened by ProVAL 3.x. This is due to the different default number formats throughout the world.
  • Creation of the MS Excel Report may fail with long file and/or profile names since Excel imposes a limit of 31 characters on sheet names.
  • Changing the chart styles in the Options does not immediately take effect.

3.30.0261: November 14, 2012

File

  • Update to read PPF files generated by ProVAL 3.4.

3.30.0257: August 7, 2012

Editor

  • After filtering, files with a lead-in had an incorrect offset.
  • Added a new section caused existing analysis results to be cleared.
  • Selecting ‘None’ for a sensor location had no effect.
  • Changes to the sensor locations had no effect on analysis profile selectors.
  • Saving changes to a file failed if another file had been deleted during the same session.
  • The Export section button was enabled when the Events and Section screen was not visible.

Analysis – Automated Faulting

  • Joint locations on the charts were not always drawn using the correct units.
  • Faulting locations on the charts were not always drawn on the profile, due to a units issue.
  • Several changes to show more decimal places when required.

Analysis – Profile Synchronization

  • Cross-correlation settings from ProVAL 2.x files may not have been imported.

Analysis – PSD

  • Wavelength charts were labeled as ‘Wave Number’.

Analysis – Ride Quality

  • Corrected import from ProVAL 2.x files of the selected Ride Quality index.

Miscellaneous

  • Software crashed if the options file was damaged.

3.30.0255: May 25, 2012

Installation

  • Removed ability to launch ProVAL after the installation. This might cause unexpected results if you install ProVAL with elevated privileges on Windows 7 or Vista.

Files

  • If online content is being shown, the software may crash on startup when opening files if the Internet connection is slow.

Viewer

  • When dragging files onto the chart, only the first 10 profiles will be plotted automatically.

PSD

  • Wave Length data for the Excel and Text reports was reversed.

Profiler Certification

  • Removing a file from the project might cause the analysis to no longer be useable.

Profilograph Simulation

  • Scallops may be reported incorrectly. This is likely only if you are using a section that doesn’t start at the beginning of the profile and an offset is present (the offset should almost always be zero). If you’re wondering if your results are wrong, the chart would be VERY obviously wrong.

Smoothness Assurance

  • Improved syncing of continuous/comparison charts.
  • Histogram charts were not always sized correctly.
  • Improved axis labeling for the Histogram.

3.30.0245: January 25, 2012

Analysis – Ride Quality

  • The Ride Quality threshold was not allowing numbers with only one decimal place.

Analysis – Smoothness Assurance

  • The Ride Quality threshold was not allowing numbers with only one decimal place.
  • The Histogram was not allowing numbers with only one decimal place.

3.30.0244: January 18, 2012

File

  • A File Import Wizard has been added. You can now import text files (and CSV files). Any text-based profile format recognized by ProVAL that is ‘corrupted’ will also launch the wizard.
  • Adding a large number of files previously caused a crash.
  • Adding a large number of files is now much faster.
  • Previously, every 5 minutes, the software would create an autorecovery file for projects that had not been saved or had been changed. For very large projects, this could cause a long delay. This file could be used if the software crashed. This should be much faster now, and consequently, the time interval has been changed to every 3 minutes. Please let us know if you encounter any issues.

Analysis

  • A proper warning is now given when low-pass wavelengths are too short.
  • Files in the selector, results, and reports should now always be in alphabetical order.
  • Enabled keyboard access for the wavelength filter link (Ctrl+Enter).
  • The Cross-Correlation analysis has been replaced by the Profile Synchronization analysis.
  • Templates are no longer automatically imported, to improve stability. You can manually import and perform other management tasks in the Options.
  • Templates will show an error message (and not crash) if an error occurs. Also, no templates will be imported unless all templates from the selected file are importable.
  • Event markers will only be shown for the selected section. Future versions will better fine-tune event marker display as well.

Analysis – OWL

  • PDF Report: For the Enabled column in the Grinding locations table, True/False is now shown instead of a checkbox.
  • Type I lower threshold has changed from 0.5 m/km to 1.339 m/km.
  • Type I upper threshold has changed from 2.0 m/km to 2.7 m/km.
  • Type II lower threshold has changed from 1.0 m/km to 1.861 m/km.
  • Type II upper threshold has changed from 4.0 m/km to 3.752 m/km.
  • Grinding Locations: Sometimes closing a project and opening a new one would result in data from the previous project remaining visible within the new project.
  • All Deep Grinding warnings were sometimes cleared when editing a Strategy.

Analysis – Profilograph

  • Analysis might crash if the basis profile is not the longest selected profile.
  • Analysis might crash when selections are different lengths.

Analysis – Ride Quality

  • Leave-outs can now be excluded from the analysis.
  • Fixed-Interval: Analysis would crash if a segment was located at the last point.
  • Fixed-Interval: Due to changes needed to accomodate leave-outs, only one result is visible at a time, as with the Continuous.

Analysis – Rolling Straightedge

  • Allowed wavelength filters are now limited to only low-pass filters.

Analysis – Smoothness Assurance

  • PDF Report: For the Enabled column in the Grinding locations table, True/False is now shown instead of a checkbox.
  • Leave-outs can now be excluded from the analysis.
  • Grinding Locations: Sometimes closing a project and opening a new one would result in data from the previous project remaining visible within the new project.
  • Fixed-Interval: Chart x-axes were not synchronized.
  • All Deep Grinding warnings were sometimes cleared when editing a Strategy.

Viewer

  • The thumbnail is redrawn when the lead-in or lead-out of the file is changed in the Editor.
  • Reporting to Excel previously created a text file that was opened in Excel. It now operates the same as the analyses, where an Excel file is created in the folder selected by the user.
  • You can now select which section to view. The default is the section specified in the Editor. The section name is included in the chart legend.
  • The PDF report now lists the length of each section.
  • A file cannot be renamed to have the same name as an existing file.
  • Unselecting a profile did not mark the project as unsaved.
  • Unselecting a profile or removing a file did not clear the associated event markers.

Editor

  • You can now select the default section.
  • The length of each section is listed.
  • Changing the sample interval will no longer change the location of the lead-in. This means that once the lead-in is ‘linked’ to a profile location, changing the sample interval will not move this location.
  • Removing a section would not update an analysis using that section. Rerunning that analysis would cause a crash.
  • A proper warning is now given when low-pass wavelengths are too short.
  • Event and Section locations can now be set with more precision.
  • Events markers were sometimes cut off on the Sections chart.

Misc

  • Autorecovery was rewritten. Previously the software would ‘freeze’ for a long period of time on large projects while saving an autorecovery file.
  • Numeric inputs throughout the software have been completely revamped to disallow invalid values and improve ease of use.
  • The user interface has been reworked to eliminate clutter and maintain consistency.
  • Some of the PDF report tables may not have shown units.
  • All non-editable grid columns should be shown in gray.
  • Enabled keyboard access to the chart toolbar.
  • Window location and size weren’t always saved properly.
  • Options: Changing the axis font for the chart template did not show if clicking the button a second time.
  • The Digit Grouping (thousands separator) option has been removed. Inputs are no longer using grouping, while output results will always use grouping.
  • Projects with the same internal ID (each project has a unique ID) are no longer prevented from being opened more than once. The previous rule was to prevent the possibility of the same project being edited at the same time. This is a problem when you change the name of the project and still can’t open it. This new ‘openness’ allows more freedom, but you will be required to ensure projects aren’t changed at the same time.
