Welcome to ProVAL

ProVAL is an engineering software application used to view and analyze pavement profiles. It is easy to use, yet powerful to perform many types of profile analyses. Contact us if you have any questions, comments, feedback, or to find out more about any of our workshops.

Normally we wait longer between releases, but user feedback alerted us to a minor but noticeable issue that will likely cause some frustration.

ProVAL 3.3 Released

We are pleased to announce the release of ProVAL 3.3!

There have been many major changes, all of which are included in the must-read Release Notes. Here is the ProVAL 3.3 introduction document.  Now, let's cover the highlights.

Exclusion of Leave-Outs

Possibly our most requested feature was the ability to automatically exclude leave-outs from an analysis. This change has been made to Ride Quality and Smoothness Assurance. You don't need to take any additional actions. Any leave-outs marked in your selected analysis section will be excluded. This does have the side-effect of limiting the Fixed-Interval Ride Quality analysis to only one file or profile at a time.

File Import Wizard

We are often asked if ProVAL can import text or csv files. We can now answer 'yes'. When adding an unknown file type, the Import Wizard will be shown. A few essential inputs are needed and then you will be able to view and analyze your profiles. The wizard will also appear for some corrupted or invalid text-based files, such as ERD.

Profile Synchronization Analysis

Cross-Correlation has been replaced by Profile Synchronization. There are two key differences. First, you are no longer limited to comparing just two profiles. Second, after profiles have been synchronized, you can apply the offsets automatically with one-click, rather than updating each profile by hand.

Optimal WIM Locator

While not a new feature, the OWL site thresholds are quite different now. See the release notes for details. You must re-run your analyses to see the new results. This change was also made to the most recent version of 3.2.

Sections

Sections are now featured much more prominently. The Sections screen in the Editor has been re-arranged and the ability to select a default Section has been added. When adding a selection in the Viewer or Analysis, this section will be used by default. In the Viewer you can also choose which section you want to view. We also added functionality to export a section.

Analysis Templates

Also not a new feature, it is very important to note that Analysis Templates from previous versions are no longer automatically imported. When ProVAL crashed on startup, the cause was almost always due to the templates. You can import templates manually in the Options.

ProVAL 3.20.0181 Released

This will likely be the final 3.2 build, with the 3.3 release imminent. Today's changes fix a crash, but more importantly, change the OWL Site Thresholds to match the thresholds in 3.3. You will need to re-run your OWL analyses.

ProVAL 3.20.0180 Released

These changes should finally put to end the problems of running ProVAL on a non-US system. Various other fixes, but the most important ones relate to the filtering used in Profiler Certification.
