ProVAL 3.0 Status

The ProVAL 3.0 is currently in the Release Candidate (RC) stage. The official release will be out toward the end of summer 2009. Contact us if you have any training needs. Check out the ProVAL 3 New Features and ProVAL 3 vs 2.7 documents!

ProVAL 3.0 Release Candidate 2 now available

The most significant changes are several fixes related to Sections, particulary in SAM. Also, running on Windows x64 systems should not be a problem anymore. Check out the release notes for more information.

RPUG 2009 Includes a ProVAL Workshop

The Pennsylvania Transportation Institute is hosting the 2009 Road Profile Users Group (RPUG) Annual Meeting in University Park, Pennsylvania from August 24 to 27, 2009. The meeting will be held at The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel. Check out the above RPUG 2009 link for more information, including meeting agenda.  Abstracts of presentation are due on June 30, 2009.  Contact Steve Karamihas (stevek at umich.edu) for further details.

A ProVAL workshop will be offered on Aug. 26 PM and Aug. 27 AM.  Stay tuned for more details.

ProVAL Developer Won ASTM International Award

Dr. George K. Chang, one of the ProVAL developers and workshop instructors, won a honorary 2007 Kummer Lecture Award from the ASTM International.

Established in 1968 by Committee E17 on Vehicle-Pavement Systems in honor of Hartwig W. Kummer, who contributed significantly to the advancement of vehicle-pavement systems through personal accomplishments and by stimulating research and encouraging the pursuit of knowledge. ASTM also issued a press release on its website while a pdf version is posted here.

Here are the abstract and presentation slides of Dr. Chang's acceptance Kummer Lecture Quantifying the Impact of Jointed Concrete Pavement Curling and Warping on Pavement Roughness.  A full paper and a video of presentation of the same title was published in SURF 2008.

ProVAL Data Spec is an ASTM International Standard

The ASTM International Standard for profile data specification, based on the ProVAL PPF spec 1.02, was published in the ASTM annual book since 2008.

This ASTM spec is designated as "E 2560-07 Standard Specification for Data Format for Pavement Profile".  There are lots of advantages adoping this specifications including more efficient data exchange.

If you implement a program to generate PPF data files, you can use ProVAL to validate your implementation.
